Our Mission
Designed for clinicians, customized for the electronic medical system, Diagnotion provides fully integrated, point of care decision support embedded within the medical record. Our goal is to transform the EMR from a documentation tool to a decision-making tool, with the ultimate purpose of helping clinicians make better decisions to provide better patient care.
Our Purpose
Diagnotion is dedicated to improving care of patients across the entire health system. We seek to provide clinical decision aids to assist providers in making evidence-informed decisions to improve patient outcomes. As the field of point-of-care decision support evolves, Diagnotion looks forward to providing all of your clinical decision support needs. We look forward to working with you to develop new ways of delivering medical decision support and keeping our products on the cutting edge.
Our Leadership and Team
Diagnotion was founded by CEO Michael VanRooyen, MD, MPH, who has worked as an emergency physician and leader as the Chair of Emergency Medicine for the Mass General Brigham Health System, serving a half a million patients per year. He is a Professor at Harvard Medical School. He is also the Co-Founder – Ibex Healthdata an early EMR system.
Content Management Team
Diagnotion contracts with specialty medical providers in medicine, cardiology, family practice, emergency medicine, surgery and sub-specialties to identify and curate medical evidence from current literature, clinical scores and scales, and medical evidence repositories.
Technical Partnerships
Diagnotion deploys decision making tools within the EMR by partnering with Clinical Architecture, an Indianapolis based health technology firm with expertise in enterprise interoperability and data integration.
The Challenge
The Diagnostic Problem: The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is generally only used as a documentation and data retrieval, NOT for medical decision making. In nearly all cases, decision support tools that are currently integrated within EMR with a primary focus on safety and include limited capabilities in drug allergy and interactive checking, duplicative order checks, flags for drug for major protocols (ie: sepsis). But decision support tools are WEAK in areas of diagnostic decision making, such as generating a differential diagnosis, assessing probabilities of diagnoses, directive ordering of tests and the process of narrowing diagnostic options.
EMRs are designed for collecting, organizing data and aggregating patient data, but the EMR is NOT great at interpreting and using data. EMRs are generally clunky at integrating decision making aids and are relatively inflexible in altering the data structure to feed decision support tools.
Diagnotion is addressing these challenges by leveraging the electronic medical record to become a decision-making tool.Diagnotion works directly with clinical leaders within EMR companies to integrate decision support tools within the structure of the EMR at the point of clinical decision making.
Diagnotion deploys a series of point of care decision support tools embedded in the electronic medical record system to provide immediate, point of care diagnostic support for medical providers of all levels, across many disciplines and sites of care. The following are Diagnotion's major offerings.
Diagnotion Clinical Knowledge Base
Integrated within the EMR to provide real time access to validated scores, scales and clinical evidence. Diagnotion licenses 1,000 existing validated clinical decision scores in all specialties of medicine. Scores are acquired from medical literature, validated, and adapted to the EMR vendor for integration into the EMR. Decision scores are used by applying current symptoms, medical history and vitals signs and labs to create a probability of a certain illness.
Clinical scores and scales in inpatient specialties such as internal medicine, cardiology, emergency medicine, oncology, surgical specialties as well as outpatient scores in pediatrics, family practice. Diagnotion also hosts specialty packages in rehabilitation, social determinants of health, geriatrics, mental health and nursing decision tools. Diagnotion has created adapted content for hospitals, medical practices, urgent cares and tele-medicine solutions.
Licensed External Content
Diagnotion partners with a number of professional societies to adapt their evidence based content into the electronic medical records. We work with the American College of Emergency Physicians, and the American Academy of Pediatrics to license popular scales and protocols and format and integrate evidence in the EMR.
Telemedicine Solutions
Diagnotion partners with major tele-medical providers to support evidence-based decision making in a virtual platform. As clinicians interact via a telemedical platform, they can assure appropriate decision-making through access to Diagnotion decision tools at the point of care.
Dynamic Decision Support
Dynamic Decision Support provides integrated decision-making solutions that use pre-defined data parameters to trigger decision support at the moment of clinical decision making. Dynamic Decision Support uses parameters such as age range, sex, clinical complaint and vital sign ranges to trigger decision support real-time and provide users immediate feedback regarding current evidence and decision tools.
Diagnotion Rehab Tools
Diagnotion licenses a suite of decision support content in rehabilitation and long-term acute care facilities, including scores and scales in delirium screening, physical therapy, cognitive assessment, mobility assessment, post-surgical assessment, handicap screening, disability rating, frailty, behavioral health screening, functional independence, stroke rehab, and intake assessment.
Our Value
Decision support is not only good for patients, it's good business. Improving real-time decision-making leads to better utilization, better patient outcomes and better revenue recovery for hospitals and clinical services. Use of decision support contributes reduces medical error and medical-legal risk.
